Edna Carolina, Christina, Louisa (Kuecker) Drewis, the daughter of Heinrich and Emma (Goellner) Kuecker, was born April 19, 1916, in Melrose Park, Illinois. She was baptized by Rev. Grosse at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Addison, Illinois and confirmed April 30, 1930, at St. Paul’s Missouri Lutheran Church by Rev. Kluender at Melrose Park, Illinois. Edna went to school at Immanuel Lutheran School in Elmhurst, Illinois and St. Paul’s Missouri Lutheran School in Melrose Park, Illinois.

            She moved to Iowa in 1932, and was united in marriage with Randolph (Randy) Otto Drewis on January 19, 1938, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Randolph preceded her in death in 1990. Edna and Randy farmed on a turkey farm for many years prior to moving into Tripoli in 1960. Edna worked at Kramer-Crittenden Produce, Farmers Produce, was head cook at the Tripoli Nursing Home, and cook at Maple Hills Country Club for many years. Edna was well know for her “good cookin”.

            Edna was very active in the ladies group at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed the companionship of her fellow quilters as long as she could. Edna loved to cook, bake, garden, and sew, and was always ready for a game of cards. She was confined to her home the last few years and pieced and sewed together thirteen quilts for her four children and nine grandchildren. Edna loved to have her family with her. She had two most loved hobbies- they were quilting and the Chicago Cubs. Edna could tell you every player on the Cub team. When they were on TV, you would see her sitting in her recliner enjoying every minute of the game.

            In January of 2010, Edna entered the Tripoli Nursing Home. This was of her choice as it became very hard for her to get around by herself in her home. She still enjoyed the Chicago Cubs as well as playing dominos and cards with the residents. Her death occurred at the home on Monday, May 28, 2012. She was ninety-six years old.

            Those thankful for having shared in Edna’s life include her two daughters, Marian (Jim) Lampe of Plainfield and Marlene (Jerry) Snelling of Tripoli; her son, Marvin (Trivona) Drewis of Tripoli; nine grandchildren, Dixie (Tom) Orthel, JoEllen Figanbaum, Spencer Snelling, Todd (Julie) Drewis, Theresa Drewis, Charlene (Al) Schmidt, Brian Drewis, Tim Drewis, and Juanita Nuss; fourteen great grandchildren; one step great grandson; and three great great grandchildren.

            In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Martin Drewis; one great granddaughter, Brittany Lohmann; her parents; and two brothers, Henry F. Kuecker and Ervin Kuecker.  

            Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli, with Rev. Marilyn Sargent officiating. Interment will be at Fremont Cemetery, rural Tripoli. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made in her name to Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli or the Tripoli Nursing Home.
